With the global economic recession that is also affecting diving industry, winning this award will certainly give Scuba Junkie the impetus to remain positive in the face of challenging tourism industry in Sabah, which at one time recorded the highest tourist arrival in Malaysia.

“We are honoured to have won this award. It has been a difficult year for everyone, so it’s heartening to have the ongoing support from our guests in this way,” says Scuba Junkie founder and director Richard Owen.

Scuba Junkie has its roots in diving Pulau Sipadan since 2004, with the Mabul Beach Resort established in 2009. New centres followed in Kota Kinabalu, and then in Indonesia – Komodo, Sangalaki and Nusa Penida, Bali.

At Scuba Junkie, the management fosters sense of responsibility towards protecting marine environment and aims to provide divers with memorable underwater experience.

Owen believes their strong focus on marine conservation and keen focus on safety as well as high training standards resonates with their guests, who continue to choose Scuba Junkie for fantastic dive experiences in all locations they operate.

“We thank all of our guests for this award, and on behalf of all the Scuba Junkie staff and management, we look forward to welcoming them back for more incredible diving, when it is safe to do so,” says Owen.

Scuba Junkie’s strong focus on marine conservation also follows through to its other dive centres in Indonesia.

“We are truly delighted to have won this award, it is a fitting reflection on our dedicated staff who share their love for diving and conservation with all of our guests,” adds Rohan Perkins, Director of Scuba Junkie in Indonesia.
