I google-d Astana

THE Bayterek Observation Tower came to mind as we landed at the Astana International Airport, located 16.7km southeast of the Kazakhstan capital city of Astana. Travelling to Kazakhstan, and particularly the capital for the first time, I could only picture the observation tower and skyscrapers after doing my Google image research on Astana. My presence here (in July 2013) was at the invitation of the Kazakhstan Embassy. I was with five other Malaysian media members to witness the celebration of Astana’s 15th anniversary. As we drove along the road towards the city centre, the capital slowly unfolded itself from a vast flat field to an urban ground with unique architecture buildings and skyscrapers. The first thing that stood out from a distance was a tall structure crowned by a golden, glittering globe — the Bayterek Observation Tower, a landmark of the Kazakh capital.

Next stop … Ipoh

I had a four-day leave to attend a long distance cousin’s wedding in Kuala Lumpur and a day off cum family date the following day. My holidays, from Sept 19 to 23, were well spent with close friends and family. I am now sitting in front of my computer screen and typing all this while waiting for my 3.30pm assignment. Today is a welcome-back-to-work day but unlike the usual back-to-busy-schedule week, I get to spend another day of work tomorrow before packing again. This Friday, I will be flying to Kuala Lumpur and taking a train to Ipoh, Perak. I haven’t been to Ipoh since my last visit in 2000/2001 and I couldn’t remember anything about Ipoh because I was there for a sport competition and that was it. So for this coming trip, I am definitely looking forward to visit Kellie’s Castle and other places worth visiting.

Hostel hunting

Danhostel Copenhagen City which is close to the København central station and Tivoli and overlooking Inderhavnen river… Or… Generator Hostel Copenhagen which is blocks away from København central station but very close to beautiful Nyhavn…

14 weeks to Denmark

After months of contemplating, I finally bought my Emirates round-trip ticket at RM3411. I bought my ticket on August 29 and I’d like to think that this rate is pretty decent considering it was RM3600++ the day before and I was so close to booking it! Definitely looking forward to flying. At the meantime, I am just keeping myself busy with works.
